Rigo Concept Brace – 3D Scoliosis Brace

Little Steps Orthotics Lab – Muscat, Oman

Little Steps Orthotics Lab in Al Ghubra, Muscat, is an independent orthotics laboratory specializing in custom braces for children, adolescents, and adults.
Every scoliosis case is assessed by a combined team of an orthotist and a physiotherapist, whether the patient is enrolled in our physiotherapy programme or referred from outside.

This collaborative approach ensures more accurate brace selection and proper alignment with real-life functional needs.

For Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), we provide a specialized brace:

Rigo Concept Brace (Rigo Chêneau-type brace)

Our team is certified by the Rigo Academy (Spain) in the Rigo Concept for 3D scoliosis bracing.

🔍 What is the Rigo Concept Brace?

The Rigo Concept Brace is a 3D thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) developed from the Chêneau concept.
It is designed to correct:

  • Spinal curvature (Cobb angle)
  • Vertebral rotation (axial rotation)
  • Global trunk balance in all three planes

The brace applies:

  • Precisely located pressure pads
  • Corresponding expansion areas

to guide the trunk into the best possible 3D corrected alignment—far beyond simple lateral pressure used in traditional symmetric braces.

🎯 When Do We Use the Rigo Concept Brace?

Typical indications include:

  • Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS)
  • Skeletally immature patients (growth not yet complete)
  • Primary Cobb angle roughly 20°–45°, with a significant risk of progression according to the surgeon

Main goals:

  • Stop or significantly slow curve progression
  • Improve trunk shape where possible
  • Reduce the likelihood of surgery in suitable cases

📚 What Does the Evidence Say?

In simple terms:

  • Many studies on Chêneau / Rigo-Chêneau braces show treatment success (no progression to surgical thresholds) in 70–85% of AIS patients who meet the criteria and comply with brace wear.
  • Recent research combining Chêneau bracing + scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE) such as SEAS / Schroth shows that conservative treatment can halt progression in most patients and improve Cobb angle in a substantial subgroup.
  • SOSORT 2016 guidelines identify bracing + PSSE as the standard conservative treatment for AIS during growth.

⚠️ Important for families:
The brace is effective when the indication is correct, the design is truly 3D, and the patient complies with the prescribed hours.
No brace can guarantee identical results for every patient.
